Crutcher FIT For example : Goal: To run a 5k Specific: Find the race you want to do, make sure it's far enough out to allow proper training(about eight weeks). Go ahead and Register for it. (more of a commitment) Measurable: Print out the training schedule and record your mileage. Attainable: This is where you make an affirmation statement that says something like, "By following a training plan, running a 5k in eight weeks is attainable." Realistic: Start by running just a mile then add a mile every 2 weeks. Timely: This means that the goal is grounded within a time frame. Saying you will run a 5k in 2016 isn't specific enough. To make the goal happen you have to give it a time frame. So writing, "I will begin training on March 1, 2017 so that I can complete the race on September 9, 2017. Take some time and focus on what you would like to accomplish in 2017. By making your goals SMART, you break them down to more manageable pieces, which makes you more likely to accomplish them. To accomplish your goals, you need to make them SMART; an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
