1 0 F I T 2 0 1 7 - 2 0 1 8 What is the training program like at BAREfit? "It's circuit-type training. We usually have stations. Mondays and Tuesdays are called 'push days,' so you use muscles that extend from your body. Wednesdays and Thursdays are 'pull days,' so you do the opposite set of muscles. Fridays and Saturday are 'whim days,' and there's a lot more cardio and whatnot. "They use a lot of repurposed equipment, like old tires. We'll flip big tires or use the macebells and beat on tires. We do a lot of planks. We'll do sled pushes. All the exercises are able to be adapted to your level." Age 47, BAREfit Adventure Training member, freelance video producer AMY MERRICK Do you have a background in fitness? "I've always been a pretty active person, but I had sort of gotten off track. I had gained a lot of weight. I realized I wasn't taking care of myself, so I just decided to start taking care of myself again. I also go to Suspend, an aerial gym." What do you like about BAREfit? "It really isn't about losing weight. That's a byproduct. It's about accomplishment and feeling good about what you can do with your body. Maybe I couldn't push this much weight in the sled last week, but I can do it this week. I think that's transferred into my regular life. I think of it as a confidence bank. "I think people shouldn't be too hard on themselves (with fitness). You have to learn to accept your body for what it is, because it changes. It does change. It's not ever the same. Don't be too hard on yourself. You'll get there. You can do it."
