"As far back as my childhood, my weight has been an issue." At doctors' appointments she wouldn't watch the scale, would pray they wouldn't announce her weight and hoped her doctor would fail to mention it. Jessie admits that although she had a lot to live for, she was watching life pass her by, unable to partake in many activities she and her family should have experienced together. Jessie normally avoided activities challenging to her size. She recalls a trip to an amusement park and the terror she felt standing in line. The physical toll it took on her body was just too much. She knew she needed a change. "I heard about surgery options offered at the Floyd Memorial Weight Management and Bariatrics Center," says Jessie. Though she had some initial reservations she was eager to learn more and continued to do research on all options available, specifcally the gastric sleeve procedure. On November 11, 2014, Jessie took that leap and had gastric sleeve surgery. In the procedure, more than half of the stomach is removed, leaving a thin vertical sleeve, or tube (about the size of a banana). Board certifed general and bariatric surgeon Lanny Gore, M.D., performed the surgery and Jessie could not have been happier with Dr. Gore, the amazing weight loss team and her results. Jessie has since engaged in activity she could have only dreamed of before, running 5Ks and pursuing a much healthier lifestyle than before. She is a model example for family and friends alike and displays nothing but self-assurance as a confdent size 8, down from her previous size of 22. Taking Control: One Patient's Decision to Choose Life and Health Jessie and her family before Jessie and her family afer "I am happy to say that I now enjoy any ride at the amusement park and am more than okay with my weight being mentioned at a doctor's appointment." she says. "One hundred twenty-three pounds down and a lifetime of health and happiness to go!"
